The Plowing Lesson, traces the traditional development of the land and the moral and civic education of citizens from the Enlightenment, by recreating the painting with the same name by Francois Andre Vincent, which shows the son of a wealthy industrial being taught to plow a field with a team of oxen.  Tracing Rousseau’s political philosophies from agrarian peasants to contemporary farmers, the film also connects the aesthetic and moral choices of its subjects to their relationship to the land.

Le film est en 3 temps. Dans un premier temps, le conservateur en chef du Musée de Beaux Arts de Bordeaux présente le tableau, son histoire, son contenu symbolique avec ses references aux philosophes des lumières et aux physiocrates sa composition et ses particularités. Dans un second temps, le film documente une réelle leçon de labourage traditionnelle contemporaine. Dans un troisième temps, Olivier Courtiade, éleveur , dresseur, enseignant de traction animale analyse le tableau de François André Vincent. Il explique les raisons philosophiques de ses choix de pratiques traditionnelle agricole au 21eme siècle.
